...or achieve the same thing by holding the option key while dragging the file for a few pixels and then dropping it (within the same folder).

Not exactly the same thing, since this option key method puts a space between the filename and appended number, while the original post's method uses a dash. Not to be a hater, but I see no reason why anyone would use the original post's method instead of the option key, especially since the option key works in any directory, not just Safari's download location.

It's OK to compare, to make suggestions. One way of doing it is seldom the only way, or the best way. That's how I feel about it. No need to view one as "better" than the other. Both are good.
