I've got a Lacie USB CDRW which is listed as supported by apple but it fails to burn. I'm already the process of trying to fix this by flashing the firmware. I tried doing this over USB but although the firmware number has changed the process informed me that it failed so now I have taken the Mitsumi CR4802TE mechanism out of the USB casing and am going to plug it directly into the IDE interface of a desktop machine at work.
Now, something odd I noticed after removing the drive was the jumper settings [MA | SL | CS]. The drive is an extenal CDRW usually plugged in over USB, but it was set as Master. Is this normal?
When I try the procedure tomorrow, I'll probably be swapping out the primary optical drive so I'll leave it set at master, but shall I set it back to slave when I plug it back into the USB bridge casing?
