Set a reminder to reply to a text message on the iPhone
You don't need to lock the phone to do this. Simply close out the dialog that appears for the SMS when in a different app. That's it.

Nice idea but this hint probably needs removing or at least rewriting. On my iPhone (which is running iPhone OS 3.0 beta 4) the advise doesn't work as locking the phone and then unlocking it simply returns to the application with the new message notification still there, prompting for a response. To me that implies that the behaviour was considered a bug and has been addressed.

My impression is that it depends if the SMS message is short enough to display entirely in the alert. If it isn't, the SMS shows unread, otherwise it's shown read.

@Izzard: eclpmb is correct. If the SMS message is short (displayable in the dialog), then it won't show the count in the SMS app icon. However, if the message doesn't fit in the dialog, then when the dialog is closed, there will be a 1 in the SMS app icon (assuming there wasn't a number in it to start with). |
