Copy Mail messages to Evernote via AppleScript
for the love of Alfredo Montoya, why?!
Copy Mail messages to Evernote via AppleScript
How about if we say I did it for Inigo Montoya -- and his father? ;)
But seriously...here's why: I'm a freelance IT consultant and I've found that many of my clients are looking for a digital version of a filing cabinet -- a role that Evernote fills quite well. Often times, they are working on several projects at once. Evernote lets them file away web pages, images, RSS feeds, and even email correspondence into Project folders that are taggable and OCR-ed. I am also leveraging FastScripts (a great script-launching solution by Red Sweater) because it allows me to make a de facto "Global Send-to-Evernote Keystroke Shortcut" for them that works the same in many programs (sort of like a DIY version of Evernote's own global 'New Note' function). From a standpoint of training and fluency, being able to set up "⌘+ E" as a standardized "Evernote Shortcut" among all of the "send to Evernote scripts" seems to be helpful to people. They get in the habit of filing things away -- and it happens pretty quickly! Give it a whirl and let me know what you think on the script's comment page. Kind Regards, Justin

oh! okay then. hmm... i foresee terrible trouble with change management issues. where is the authoritative copy kept? where is the linkage? why are there these watermelon seeds in my ears?

I would *love* for there to be linkage between the two so that there would be a link to an authoritative copy -- I tried to make it happen and it's clearly the preferable scenario -- but Evernote can't do that...at least, not yet (although I think there are indications that it's on the way).
Not sure if you're interested, but if you want to get into the more technical aspects of the things I tried in an attempt to create a link, let's move the conversation over to the script's page on Veritrope. Maybe you (or another Scripting Guru) could help us make that happen! As written, the way that I think about this script (and the others for NNW, Entourage, etc.) is that it's like sticking a photocopy in a file folder. It's not giving you an "authoritative copy", but it's giving you a snapshot of something at a moment in time. For many people, this is all they need. Combine that with Evernote's ability to assemble and catalog information from many different sources inside it's web-accessible platform and I think the result more than makes up for its current limitations. Kind Regards, Justin P.S. Good luck with those seeds! |
