Installation tips for a 10.5/Boot Camp hard drive upgrade

Confused as to why you have to pull the drive before doing the Winclone step. Why can't you just:

1. Put new drive in external enclosure
2. Initialize new drive, making sure to select partition, options... and select GUID
3. Use CCC to clone the mac side of the drive
4. boot off the new drive still in external enclosure, use bootcamp tools to create bootcamp partition.
5. Use Winclone to clone the XP/Vista side of the disk
6. THEN install drive into new machine.

Are there any reasons this won't work?

Ok, I can answer my own question. The bootcamp tool won't work with an external drive.
