No, you didn't insure anything. Insurance is a financial and contractual arrangement to get monetary compensation when something goes wrong. The word you're looking for is "ensure".

In English, the words are often used interchangeably, even Merriam-Webster includes both definitions for 'insure':
in•sure
transitive verb
1 : to provide or obtain insurance on or for
2 : to make certain especially by taking necessary measures and precautions
If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.
