If I'm not mistaken, this would help in such a situation but only if the contents of the DVD are stored in the RAM disk -- thus cutting down read time on the DVD. However you're still going to need to read the DVD to put it into the RAM disk, so overall I'm not sure it's worth it. I have no real experience trying this, so maybe others will have more to offer.
