I disagree. It is indeed a great hint! Recovered 600 MB which is no small change for us Rev1 MBA users! Many thanks!

I have a MBP and replaced my HD with a 250 GB model, but still I'm trying to not waste space. :-) Glad you liked the hint.

Reclaim drive space by deleting iPod/iPhone firmware

Deleting the files has a side benefit, as well.

As a matter of course, I delete them all. Having gotten an iPod Touch stuck in a "restore" endless loop, and finding that part of the problem causing the loop was the software's inability to properly recognize already-downloaded updaters, I've found that it's far simpler (although a little more time-consuming) to have iTunes go through the process of downloading and using the latest firm/software updates when restoring a Touch.
