How to update a Pioneer DVD drive's firmware
Authored by: cinemais on Jan 29, '09 12:13:21PM
Thanks for the note. I did successfully update an external Pioneer DVR-111D unit!

DVRFlash is now up to version 2.60 (which supports the DVR-111D drive) and its new home is at http://dvrflash.rpc1.org/.

After the successful update to firmware DVR111D_FW129EU, I used the [Windows only] utility MCSE, MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers, at http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/ which for this drive allows patching of the above firmware for RPC1 (region free) as well as Riplock (to increase read-speed during ripping). Then reflashed the drive with this new patched firmware.

To manage the change of region settings, the utility "Region X - 1.6" is available thru VersionTracker. The handy utility "DVD Info X" which displays info and region settings for connected DVR drives is to be found via MacUpdate.
