Possibly scan documents using iPhone/iPod Touch

It's not useless. If you need to go straight from device to handheld or handheld to device, this can save a step. And it isn't very unreasonable to consider a situation where the computer attached to the device cannot communicate with the handheld (e.g., you don't have the connection cable, and the computer is not wifi enabled).

Possibly scan documents using iPhone/iPod Touch

I probably should have said "generally useless" rather than "useless". I agree it's not impossible to have a need for this, but it's unlikely for most people. The point I was really trying to make was that it's cooler than it is useful, not so much that it'll never have any use for anyone.

I can't think why you'd ever want to go from handheld to device if the device is a scanner, and a computer doesn't need to be wifi enabled to transfer stuff to the iPhone - it just needs to be networked, which given that we're talking about using a networked scanner here is quite likely.

Of course the computer could be off. Like I say, I was wrong to say useless - more "rarely useful" I think.
