Sorry to say it, but, yes, that Option thing has been around for ages. It frustrated me, too, ages ago. I agree, it's frustrating.

As for why you'd possibly want this... here's why I like the Option-Cmd-i Inspector: you can close it with the same keystroke. This means you can take a quick peek without having to maneuver your mouse over to the top corner of the Get Info window every time you use one. It's quick. It also does the math and gives a total storage account of all the currently selected files, in MB, GB, whatever. Oh, and like mark and rb said, it updates depending on what you've got selected.

I'm really grateful for this hint! The 2nd AppleScript works perfectly for me on my Tiger system, whereas the first did not. Thanks to both scripters! This is awesome.
