There are actually several limitations to this method of synchronizing iCal with Google Calendar and other iCal calendars. Not sure if the limitations are Google's fault or iCal's fault, but there are several drawbacks.

Also, I'm not sure if the Google calendars actually sync with your iPhone or not.

In any case, BusySync seems to be the best way to currently handle syncing between multiple iCal calendars and a Google calendar. BusySync lacks all of the drawbacks that Calaboration has... and BusySync even lets you get your calendar subscriptions onto your iPhone!
