Download links from external sources in Safari

(I probably didn't go far back enough in my search to find this downloads window trick - too many results from my search)

When there is no window open in Safari and you activate Safari with the Dock, it doesn't really matter:

  1. Click safari in the Dock - activates Safari and opens a new window
  2. Paste
  3. Option-return
  4. Close empty window

OR

  1. Click safari in the Dock - activates Safari and opens a new window
  2. Close empty window
  3. Cmd-option-L for Downloads window
  4. Paste

If you activate Safari with the app switcher, or there is already a window open, then the Downloads window can be simpler:

  1. Activate Safari (could be many extra tabs to get to it in App Switcher)
  2. Cmd-option-L for Downloads window
  3. Paste

Personally, I rarely use the app switcher.
