10.5: How to pull Time Capsule data for dead drives

My problem is that my Time Machine drive is dead. It has directory problems that Disk utility can't fix, and it won't let me mount it. Any idea how I can recover that?

Disk Utility is pretty wimpy when it comes to repairing file systems; try Disk Warrior or TechTool -- you might have a copy of one of them if you bought AppleCare. If you can still see the file system in Disk Utility than chances are pretty good you can recover at least some of the data with Disk Warrior (in my experience).

The backup's dead, but you still have your original data, right? If so, throw the backup drive out the window. It's not worth your time to backup to a faulty drive, even if you think you can fix it, you'll never be able to trust it.
