Work around a PDF page-opening and zoom level issue
Shucks, I was hoping this was going to fix the most annoying "feature" of how Preview opens up a Spotlight-found PDF at some ridiculous zoom level and scrolled to the found search term. Let me be a little clearer:

I guess you're talking about Preview? Because Zoom to fit is Command-0 in Acrobat.

To drmacnut: I don't have the excessive zoom problem with Spotlight and Preview. Spotlight launches Preview which opens the PDF document to the most relevant page (the one with the most hits). Document magnification is actual size. In Preview Preferences under the PDF tab, I have 'Auto-scale' selected. If your choice also is 'Auto-scale' (instead of a user-defined magnification), then you may have a corrupt Preview plist file.

I even filed this as a "bug" with Developer Tech. Support, but they said "it is behaving as designed."
Then I found there is a hidden preference to turn this off. See <http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/index_files/reduce-preview-pdf-zoom-after-spotlight.html> Basically you just need to type the following (in terminal) defaults write com.apple.Preview Preview -dict-add PVPDFSpotlightSelectionSize 10 |
