Import CDs without adding track numbers in iTunes 8

Great tip, but iTunes 8 has already added track and disk numbers to every song in my library! I'm furious about this.

I love Apple products, but I'm really starting to dread updates, because lately they quietly change things "under the hood," for no apparent reason -- features that many of us rely upon. I have 10,000 songs that were organized the way I want them. Now, Apple's not only removed the preference to disable track-numbering, they gone and numbered my 10,000 tracks without my permission. WTF?!!

What's the big deal? What does it change?

Why didn't you just copy the files back from your backup, and go back to iTunes 7?

You have asked iTunes to rename and move files if you've checked the option to "keep iTunes Music Folder organized".

If you're depending on files being in a particular place with a particular name, then tell it you want to manage files manually, and it will happily honor whatever naming and folder structure you desire.
