10.5: Speed drag-selection of large icons

Why would a laptop owner with limited screen area work with folders containing huge icons? With dozens or hundreds of huge icons, you'd scroll for minutes just to see them all. If the large icons are photos or artwork, then why not use Cover Flow instead?

The 17" macbook pro screen goes up to 1920x1200 (best upgrade ever that). Plenty of room for icons. Even on smaller laptops I use the big icons to browse and manage photos.
