Encrypt Mail, Address Book, and iCal data

I came here to say the same thing. While this hint is interesting and I'm sure helpful to some, in my experience FileVault gets a bad rap from people too scared to try it.

I have used it since 10.4 on two Macs in daily use, and while FV implementation was prone to some bugs in 10.4 it's been rock solid in 10.5. No data corruption or weirdness.

The other, often cited, potential problem with FV is slowdowns. I work on Macs all day and most do not use FV, and in comparison I can see absolutely no speed issues with running FV on your home folder.

The Time Machine backup limitation is a hassle, but I don't understand why people would jump through so many hoops to rig up a homemade encryption solution when FV is a button-push away.
