10.5: Move Time Machine backup to another drive
I've tried both Disk Utility and the latest version of CCC, and both would time out after hours of cloning the disks. I'm trying to copy my old Time Machine which is now mostly full (I've already lost months of backup) to a new Drobo. Can it have anything to do with trying to move over ~465GB of data? Both times I tried with either tool, it timed out after everything seemingly had been copied over. Both tools said that the restore failed as a result. All the files APPEAR to be on there, but I'm not sure I want to take that chance.

Got it work - finally... with Super Duper. Interestingly enough, it failed as well at nearly 100% completion but was specific about what it was having trouble with... it was a password protected folder on the Time Machine disk. I deleted it from the backup, and tried again using Smart Update and it worked! My Drobo is now recognized as a Time Machine backup!

A password-protected folder? How do you set up one of those? I know about encrypting sparseimages, to secure files, but I didn't know you could restrict access to a single folder with a password in OSX. How's that done? |
