ctrl-d and the command "logout" also exit single-user mode. i'm guessing that the "reboot" command actually reboots the machine, so any of these methods ("bye bye" (which I question, since there's a space in it), "logout" or ctrl-d) would be a lot faster than a full reboot.

I'd try the "reboot" and "bye bye" methods, but don't want to actually reboot my OS X box. ^_^

Maybe the command is just "bye." That's an old, common "exit" type of command.

I've used "exit" since 10.1.2....

True. Since I'm on a Tibook rebooting is a daily thing.

"bye bye" worked from single user mode in X.1.5

Just thought everyone would like to know.

Not only from 10.1.5!
I've found out the "bye bye" command by chance, and I'm running 10.1.4

(I've found a fragile equilibrium: after loong hours of suffering, at the moment I'm being able to print with a HP AIO from X AND from 9...don't want to mess it up trying to upgrade.. :)

Didn't try just "bye" , though.

why do you have to reboot your TiBook daily?

Not to brag, but all of my OS X machines, including my TiBook, stay up for weeks at a time.

I do not have a Tbook, and I do not need to reboot daily (never said so), but I DO run some unix commands in su mode sometimes, and then I have to go back to Aqua....
