Make iPhone stay in UTC Regardless of Current Time Zone
I assume the term "automatic" refers to the ability to switch time zones according to data received from mobile carriers. My guess is that carriers transmits UTC and time zone, and with automatic off, iPhone discards the time zone information and simply displays UTC…

No, Set Automatically means just that, it sets the time and time zone automatically. If you turn it off, you have to set the time manually, and it will most likely drift eventually.

Turning off Automatic prevents the iPhone from displaying the local time (as received from the local carrier) on the phone when you move from time zone to time zone. I have not tested to see how much drift may occur. You can correct for any drift you believe has occurred by just turning automatic back on for a minute periodically.

I know what you mean by getting the time from carriers, I had once a SE which (sometimes) changed the time accordingly. But I believe iPhone gets the time zone from whatever Core Location uses (WiFi via Skyhook, GPS or towers triangulation) as it got the proper time with no SIM. |
