Mavericks: Zooming images and PDFs in Quick Look is back
Nov 12, '13 05:15:00AM • Contributed by: zsaeid
In Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, the functionality to zoom in and out of PDFs in Quick Look is back: Press and hold the Option key while scrolling with two fingers.
Moreover, the images in Quick Look can be zoomed in to actual size by just pressing the option key. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to select text from text files in Quick Look.

Mavericks: Zooming images and PDFs in Quick Look is back
Au contraire: Text selection in Mavericks is still possible. It works for me: I've applied the following command since 10.8:
Mavericks: Zooming images and PDFs in Quick Look is back
I've run the same command, and while text selection works fine, copying text using a keyboard shortcut doesn't seem to work. Is this just me? Using the menu command works fine, it's just command-C that doesn't copy the text.

I have this enabled, and, at least on my machine, holding Option or anything else for the functionality mentioned in the hint is not necessary. I just pinch and zoom as I would on the iPhone. Same with images. I don't know whether that's related to this text selection setting's being turned on or not, but the modifier keys don't seem necessary. You can also just Pinch to zoom.

Indeed, text selection (and copying) still works for me in Quickview (I ran the command line in a earlier version of Mac OS X and it kept)

As others pointed out, text selection in QuickLook does NOT work by default in Mountain Lion either... until you run the command in Terminal to activate it... just as Mavericks.
Also, zooming PDF files in QuickLook by "scrolling" with the Option key pressed ALSO works in Mountain Lion. It does not work for images, though, and that's another nudge pushing me to upgrade. (10.9.1, where art thou?) |
