iTunes 11: Downgrade to iTunes 10.7 Apps
iTunes 11 has been very controversial, and many people are disappointed with its limited viewing options, and are looking for ways to downgrade to iTunes 10.7, the previous version. This is possible, yet it is a bit complex. This thread on StackExchange shows what you need to do to be able to downgrade, though it assumes you have a Time Machine backup or other recent clone of OS X, because it requires restoring certain frameworks in addition to the iTunes application itself.

If you do this, make sure you back up your entire system, and make sure to read the entire thread to see certain problems that may occur.

Rather than manually restoring every affected file by the iTunes11 upgrade, I just reintalled iTunes 10.7 using Pacifist (telling it to replace all existing files). The only other file you need to restore manually is the "iTunes Library.itl" file.

Best Practices for Installing New iTunes and Safari Versions
Authored by: chucky23 on Dec 04, '12 09:01:39AM

"because it requires restoring certain frameworks in addition to the iTunes application itself."

New versions of both iTunes and Safari ALWAYS rewrite system frameworks, making rollback difficult and tedious, or close to impossible.

Before installing new versions of these apps, you should make it regular practice to ALWAYS make a full clone to make it easy to rollback if you need or want to.

Personally, I'm not upgrading to iTunes 11 because I dig CoverFlow. But that's just me. The above advice applies with EVERYONE with the gear to easily make a clone prior to installing new versions of iTunes and Safari.

Rather than downgrading, you can get the old layout by just choosing Show Sidebar in the View menu.

I got mine about 97% back to where it was. I turned the sidebar back on. They I view my library by Artist, which does the list view with album art, and I have the artist list between the sidebar and library window just the way I had it.

There's a few things missing that I used to use, but I found work arounds.

I like the new look, after I got used to it.

What are your problems with iTunes 11? I'm not understanding from your post what is so "controversial" about it.

Not the original poster, but I'm struggling to get iTunes 11 to work in any reasonable way with a manually managed ipod (classic). Itunes won't go into column browser mode while browsing the ipod. Search won't produce results (only suggestions during typing but clicking on them doesn't do anything). Search does work on the main library but in this new semi-usable way. I like the simplicity of iTunes 11 but I don't like the broken-ness. I wish they'd have just announced that it didn't support manually managed ipods. I wouldn't have upgraded.

Let's assume that some percentage short of 100% are happy enough about the changes iTunes 11 makes to want to keep it on their machines. The post is for those folks, and talks how to revert, since the Apple built-in Time Machine backup software doesn't make such reversion even POSSIBLE.

iTunes 11 doesn't have iTunes DJ
and "up next" is not a good replacement for DJ

I'm always tempted to try out new things, but after "upgrading" from iPhoto '09 to iPhoto '11 only to be sorely disappointed and extremely frustrated I'm gonna have to pass as long as I can on this one. Upgrading back is not an experience I want to repeat.

Honestly, I don't like the new software Apple makes these days. Even the system. It's just the way of things I suppose. Take Google; They were the best because they had the results and it was a nice, clean, simple to use interface. Now? Featuritis aside, getting what I search for is a chore often enough that I can't stand using Google.

I just push forward, not looking back. 11 is functional, and it didn't break anything here...

I just took at look at iTunes 11 and I like it. Granted, I don't use it all that much but I like the simplified layout.

I am using 10.7 on one machine, 11 on another. One of the big missing items is to display duplicates. It's gone in 11. If you have a large collection, you might want to know about duplicates. With version 11, I don't see the function anywhere.

Has anyone else found the "Display Duplicates" function in Itunes 11 ??

I don't have a problem with the format of iTunes 11, but when I tried to rip CDs so that I can copy them to my ipod, they don't appear in the library.
So I can't drag them onto my Ipod.
I tried the downgrade back to 10.7, and now it doesn't recognise my ipod at all, although I can now see the CDs that I ripped. Has anybody else had this problem?

Since I've gone to iTunes 11.0.1 some CDs are in my iTunes Library but don't show up in iTunes
I think this is because some older CDs have copy protection and iTunes 11.0 is recognizing that and not loading the songs
