iTunes 11 has been very controversial, and many people are disappointed with its limited viewing options, and are looking for ways to downgrade to iTunes 10.7, the previous version. This is possible, yet it is a bit complex. This thread on StackExchange shows what you need to do to be able to downgrade, though it assumes you have a Time Machine backup or other recent clone of OS X, because it requires restoring certain frameworks in addition to the iTunes application itself.

iTunes 11: Downgrade to iTunes 10.7
Rather than manually restoring every affected file by the iTunes11 upgrade, I just reintalled iTunes 10.7 using Pacifist (telling it to replace all existing files). The only other file you need to restore manually is the "iTunes Library.itl" file.

Rather than downgrading, you can get the old layout by just choosing Show Sidebar in the View menu.

NO! That is not the way at all!

I got mine about 97% back to where it was. I turned the sidebar back on. They I view my library by Artist, which does the list view with album art, and I have the artist list between the sidebar and library window just the way I had it. ---

What are your problems with iTunes 11? I'm not understanding from your post what is so "controversial" about it.

Not the original poster, but I'm struggling to get iTunes 11 to work in any reasonable way with a manually managed ipod (classic). Itunes won't go into column browser mode while browsing the ipod. Search won't produce results (only suggestions during typing but clicking on them doesn't do anything). Search does work on the main library but in this new semi-usable way. I like the simplicity of iTunes 11 but I don't like the broken-ness. I wish they'd have just announced that it didn't support manually managed ipods. I wouldn't have upgraded.

iTunes 11: Downgrade to iTunes 10.7
I'm always tempted to try out new things, but after "upgrading" from iPhoto '09 to iPhoto '11 only to be sorely disappointed and extremely frustrated I'm gonna have to pass as long as I can on this one. Upgrading back is not an experience I want to repeat.

I just push forward, not looking back. 11 is functional, and it didn't break anything here...
iTunes 11: Downgrade to iTunes 10.7
I just took at look at iTunes 11 and I like it. Granted, I don't use it all that much but I like the simplified layout.
iTunes 11: Downgrade to iTunes 10.7
I am using 10.7 on one machine, 11 on another. One of the big missing items is to display duplicates. It's gone in 11. If you have a large collection, you might want to know about duplicates. With version 11, I don't see the function anywhere.
iTunes 11: Downgrade to iTunes 10.7
I don't have a problem with the format of iTunes 11, but when I tried to rip CDs so that I can copy them to my ipod, they don't appear in the library.
iTunes 11: Downgrade to iTunes 10.7
Since I've gone to iTunes 11.0.1 some CDs are in my iTunes Library but don't show up in iTunes |
