iTunes 11: Use the MiniPlayer with iTunes in full-screen mode Apps
While it's not obvious, you can use the MiniPlayer with full screen mode in iTunes 11.

Switch out of full screen mode, set iTunes to show on all desktops via the Dock, open the MiniPlayer as a separate window (Window > MiniPlayer), then click the full screen button on the main window.

I currently have the MiniPlayer sitting in the upper-right corner of my 17" MBP's screen so that I can quickly access it while working on my 27" LED Cinema Display with iTunes running fullscreen in the background.

[kirkmc adds: This works as described. However, if you have the MiniPlayer set to float above other windows (in the iTunes Advanced preferences), then it won't display when you switch to iTunes. This makes sense, of course, because you don't need it when there.

Also, this is the only way to get the MiniPlayer to work across spaces, if you use them. If iTunes is not in full-screen mode, then the MiniPlayer only displays in iTunes' space.]

Great hint.

My experience differs a little from what Kirk added. I have iTunes set to appear in all spaces and the MiniPlayer set to float above all windows. If I also have iTunes running as a full-screen app and I switch to iTunes from another app (using command+tab) then it takes me to the MiniPlayer window that is floating above the full-screen iTunes window.

Okay, I wasn't clear. I have iTunes set to display in just one space, and the MiniPlayer only shows up in that space, unless I set it to full-screen.

I don't see an option in the dock to set iTunes to "show on all desktops via the Dock". How do I get that to work?

Yeah I don't understand this either. I see no options in the context menus for "show on all desktops."

Sorry, I should've been more clear when I submitted the hint (and yes, I do fell a bit foolish for not noticing that I had been logged out of the site when submitting >.<). If you click and hold/right-click/control-click/two-finger-click on iTunes in the Dock in Lion or Mountain Lion, you'll see an 'Options' submenu. In that submenu you'll see an 'Assign To' section with one of the options being 'All Desktops'.

I had this problem too. Possibly because I had added the old versions of iTunes to my dock and I was still getting the v10 icon from the new (v11) iTunes. I quit iTunes, dragged the old iTunes icon out of the dock, and then relaunched iTunes. This seemed to work for me.

Turns out you have to have at least two non-full-screen desktops for the "Assign To" submenu to show up under "Options". You can set this up by going into Mission Control and mousing over to the top-right corner of the screen, then clicking on the "+" that shows up. Once you've set the setting in iTunes's Options menu, though, you can get rid of the second desktop.

My mini player stays on all windows regardless whether in full screen mode or windowed. Hmmm. I'll just count myself lucky.
