Rename and dock Finder sidebar foldiers System 10.7
You can rename folders in Finder window sidebars from a contextual menu. This also renames the folder that it links to, so use with caution. You can also drag a folder from the Finder sidebar to the Dock.

[kirkmc adds: This isn't new; renaming goes back at least to 10.6, but you can't drag a folder from the Finder sidebar to the Dock until 10.7. Nevertheless, it's not on the site, so it's worth mentioning]

There's an interesting conundrum with respect to adding items to the sidebar. You can drag folders and position them just about anywhere you want.

However, to add an app or a file, you have to use cmd-T or File > Add to Sidebar, both of which add the selected item to the bottom of the list, meaning if you want to position it elsewhere, it involves the extra step of selecting the item in the sidebar and positioning it.

Is there some way to simply drag non-folder items to the sidebar? I'd love to see this fixed.

Simply hold the Command key while you drag an item to the Sidebar (at least under 10.7).
