Change default Calendar alert and time System 10.8
You can change the default calendar event sound and all day event time. These settings are stored as part of each individual calendar.

Locate and open in TextEdit:
~/Library/Calendars/UUID.calendar/LocalDefaultAlarms/EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm ~/Library/Calendars/UUID.calendar/LocalDefaultAlarms/EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm

The default all day event time can be changed to 6 am, for example, instead of 9 am:
TRIGGER:PT6H

You can change the default event time to values not available in the preferences. This can be a positive or negative value, for instance 3 hours before:
TRIGGER:-PT3H

The alert sound can be specified (without a file extension) using anything in your user or system sound folder:
ATTACH;VALUE=URI:Basso

Change default Calendar alert and time

My boot disk does not have any "LocalDefaultAlarms" folder now any files ending in ".iscalarm" (iCal 5.0.3, OSX 10.7.5)

Could it be that this applies to Mountain Lion-only?

DOES NOT Change default Calendar alert and time

There is at least one error in the post. The path listed is actually two separate paths. Also I could not get it to work (and would like to know how to use sounds with spaces in the names). Also the only paths given that were close in Mountain Lion were not of the form ~/Library/Calendars/UUID.calendar/LocalDefaultAlarms/EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm but more like: ~/Library/Calendars/[actual UUID.caldav]/LocalDefaultAlarms/EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm. I could not find but a couple of my calendars calendars and try as I might I was unable to get either the default time to change or the sound this to change. Assuming those issues can get resolved it would actually be nice to know how to set the default to Message with Sound also.

Could it be that the "PT" part as in:
TRIGGER:PTnH
or
TRIGGER:-PTnH
refer to Pacific Time? In which case, it might be a good idea to say it in the hint so people from East Coast (or wherever) could change it accordingly.

I didn't not get any change in time even though I set changes that were 3-6 hrs long. I am in Central Time -- I cannot for the life of me figure out why the offset for the reminder would need to take into account the time zone since it is an absolute offset from a time you set. How the machine stores the time should not make any difference as long as the time vector is applied correctly (i.e., the magnitude of the time reminder offset is the same no matter what the time zone).

I don't think this works for CalDAV calendars. The path doesn't exist for me, and yes, I have swapped out the actually UUID.

How you specify a PM time? Is it 24hrs clock?

Can I use something like:
TRIGGER:PT16

I don't like my all day events to send alerts in the morning…

There is not even a "Calendars" folder in the Library folder when I attempt to navigate to it. I am using Mountain Lion, and iCal 6. Help!
