New poll: Which is your preferred ebook reader? Site News
With Amazon due to present new Kindles today, I thought it would be an interesting poll topic to discuss which ebook reader you prefer (assuming you use one).

You may have more than one - I have a Kindle Touch and an iPad. (I also have an iPhone and iPod touch, but don't consider them practical for reading books.) But which one do you use most? Which do you really prefer?

For me, I like the Kindle Touch because it's a lot lighter than the iPad. However, the lack of a backlight is limiting, so I do use my iPad from time to time. And for this reason, an iPad mini or iPad air would suit me quite well for reading.

Vote in the poll. And feel free to post any comments here or on the poll page.

The options don't adequately describe the situation.

For example my favorite is iPhone but using Kindle app. I have found the Kindle app to be significantly better for reading than the iBooks app.

So "Kindle" and "iPhone" are not exactly good options since I kind of use both at the same time. :)

I too use the kindle app to read on the iPhone. (sometimes on iPad, but mostly on the phone) I very much dislike the iBooks app, on both the iPad and the iPhone.

As do I. That may change if they don't fix the latest version of the Kindle app, though. It's ridiculously bright, so even the lowest light setting and with white text on black background lights up the room and is hard on the eyes. Yes, I do most of my reading in bed, and because of that I use the iPhone because it's small and practical. It's also conveniently available whenever I have a few minutes available for reading, like while commuting.

While it depends on the type of book, I prefer my iPhone with Kindle reader. I often read in bed at night, and its small size and self-illumination, not to mention its light weight prevail.

I voted "Kindle" but I also read on my iPhone, where my favourite app is Stanza, and BlueFire reader is close second.

#1 - iPad (iBooks and then the rest of the reader apps as needed).
#2 - Nook Color (in some ways, better than the iPad because of the lack of distractions; Web use, for example, is a bad joke).

I don't own a Kindle, however, I use the Kindle App a lot on my iPhone and my iPad. I even use the Kindle Mac app on my Mac Book Pro. It all depends on where I'm at and what else I might be doing. I prefer the iPad for using a treadmill at the gym, iPhone for on the go, and my MBP when I'm home.

I use my iPad, but I have all of the reader apps on it and use the app with the library with the book that I am reading.

I shop around and get the best price for the book(s) that I want. I got the Hunger Games Trilogy with internet coupons from Kobo for about $5 total.

I've used iBooks for reading technical pdf's on my iPhone and have been impressed how well it works.

The Kindle app for the iPhone [and Mac] works ok for novels, but is frustrating for non-fiction where you're more likely to jump around. iBooks makes it easier to know which chapter or section you're in while reading by showing chapters when moving the page slider and putting location numbers in the Table of Contents [epub]. Not so with the Kindle software.

Also, the Kindle uses Full Justification creating uneven word spacing, iBooks uses Flush Left, which I prefer.

I've had pagination problems with the Kindle software, where touching a line in the Table of Contents would miss the page.

Now if Apple would at least put iBooks on the Mac.
