Get notifications for iTunes track changes System 10.8
If you like getting those little Notification Center alerts when things happen, here's a way to get even more. iTunification gets information from iTunes when tracks change, and funnels this into Notification Center, so you can get a banner to see what the next track is.

This certainly isn't new, as GrowlTunes has been able to do this for a while (if you use Growl), and I get notifications from CoverSutra, an iTunes controller. On top of that, I'd be willing to bet pretty much anything that the next major update to iTunes has Notification Center support. But in the meantime, if you want simple banners to tell you what's playing, this is a good solution, and it's free.

I recommend SizzlingKeys; I've used it for years. You get a Growl-style popup as well as keyboard shortcuts that work from any app to play, pause, skip or change iTune's volume level (independently of the Mac's main volume level. You can try it for free from their website: http://www.yellowmug.com/sk4it/

Or you can use Butler. I use it for ages, it's free and you can do so much other things with it.

Butler has never been free. It used to be "donationware" which does not mean free and it is now "shareware". See: http://manytricks.com/blog/?p=144

CoverSutra certainly does a lot. If you're interested in something that only does notifications on track changes, take a look at NowPlaying. It may require 10.8 or later; not sure.

There is also a very simple Terminal hack that enables iTunes' own notifications which appear just above the Dock symbol. If you're not looking for something facy such as album cover, that will do the trick for you, without any additional app or plugin required.
The hack is easy to find, but for reference see here: http://lifehacker.com/5861386/add-pop+up-notifications-to-itunes-with-a-terminal-command
