Safari 6: two-finger pinch to view and select Tabs. System 10.8
In Safari 6, and Mountain Lion, you can use a two-finger pinch to view and switch tabs.

Once you pinch in Safari (assuming multiple tabs are opened) you will get a view similar to that of Safari on iOS, and you can navigate among tabs using two-finger swipes to the right and left, arrow keys or a mouse or trackpad. This is an interesting way to preview all open tabs without having to load them fully.

You can either press Return, click the mouse or tap to select the frontmost tab, or pinch out to stay where you are. You can also close any tabs by clicking the close button in their headers or pressing Command-W while in this view.

[kirkmc adds: Interesting idea. I find all these gestures a bit hard to remember, but this one may actually become instinctive over time. Personally, I'll stick with Command-Shift-arrow key to cycle through tabs… Following the comments below, I've changed the category to 10.8. I had expected this to work across the board in Safari 6.]

Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Cmd-Shift-\ or click the new button at the far right of the tab bar.

I have not used this feature. But Cmd-Shift-/ makes more sense. Right?

Not really - that shortcut activates the 'Search Help' box systemwide.

Not sure where or how to use this gesture. When I use pinch, it does as the system preference shows, zoom in and out. This is the same as my iPad too. If there is a way to use pinching as a way to navigate tabs, that would be nice but maybe some real instructions that work would help.

Apparently this only works in Mountain Lion and not in 10.7...

Possibly Safari 6 with 10.8 only...

I submitted this, and I've heard that it might not work under 10.7 (Lion).
I have not tested this yet, so it might be that Apple only includes this with Mt Lion and Safari 6.
WIll post back.

Apple's web site implies that this is only 10.8 and my testing on my 10.7 machine confirms this:

Indeed. Just booted up my Lion MBAir and it's 10.8.only.
Sorry for the confusion. I had not tested Safari 6 on the Lion Mac prior to submitting.

Interesting. A recent hint I posted as 10.8 turned out to be Safari 6, so, since I don't have a Lion installation, I just figured this was Safari 6 on both OSs.

Welcome to the consistently inconsistent world of Apple :)

I'm trying all types of pinches and it's not working for me on a Late 2011 17" MBP with 10.8.
