The latest version of Parallels Desktop apparently has the sleazy feature of displaying ads, even though you've paid for the software. Simone Magnelli tweeted a defaults command that you can use to turn them off:

defaults write com.parallels.Parallels\ Desktop ProductPromo.ForcePromoOff -bool YES

Now I don't use Parallels - I use VMware Fusion - and I'm glad I don't. I haven't tested this, so if someone could confirm that it works, and post in the comments, I'd appreciate it.

Hmmm, seems like another good reason to use Fusion. I am glad I switched when Fusion v1.0 came out and still prefer it.

Curious post. I use Parallels and I don't see any ads to turn off. Not sure why a hint to do something that doesn't need doing.

I think if you have a version prior to the latest it will "remind you" to upgrade quite a bit.

I've seen the offers for Kapersky AV infrequently. Not a biggie, and I've been nothing but happy with Parallels after replacing MacFuse with OSXFuse.

Virtual Box is a crippled virtual machine (at least if you're using Windows 7). I have Parallels and I love it. Don't see any ads other than the Kaspersky thing, which showed up a couple of times.

I use an Love Parallels too, over Fusion.

But i have not seen any ads and have no idea what people are seeing. If its just the Kespersky thing,,,then i have seen that, but other then that, i do not know what this post is about.

I can say that since i been using Desktop 8, i have not seen any Ads either.

I will keep an eye out an see if i notice any ads but so far, i see none
