Replace carrier name with logo in iPhone status bar iOS devices
I have always been annoyed by the carrier name taking up a lot of space at the top of my iPhone screen. A few days ago I found a way to insert the much smaller carrier logo without jailbreaking the device.

Just search Google for an IPCC file for your carrier and iOS 5. Download that, go to Terminal and type in the following line:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Connect your iPhone to iTunes and click on "Check for updates" while pressing the Option key. Select the aforementioned IPCC file, and you're done. Unfortunately it seems that the same file cannot be used for an iPad; at least it didn't work for mine.

[kirkmc adds: I didn't test this, and I'd recommend prudence before making this change. There is a chance that this could cause problems with your iPhone. For more about these carrier files, see this Macworld article by Ted Landau, where he explains what they are and what kind of changes you can make to them. Note that, depending on your carrier, you may already have an IPCC file in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Carrier Support.]

Any chance someone can link to a screenshot of what this looks like on the handset post-change? The saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" comes to mind.

You'll notice that there's a link to that article in the hint...

And there's no picture in that article of what the carrier's logo instead of the text looks like... so if someone does do this please post. Esp if this is possible with a Verizon iPhone.

Kirk, thanks a lot for this link. Although it's a bit outdated. IPCC files are no longer stored in the Library folder of OS X.

After reading this I must admit that I was not aware of some hidden minor pitfalls. Especially with the roaming setting. I wonder if that just can be overwritten by manual settings after the IPCC install?

I have an IPCC file there. But this may be because I bought the iPhone before the carrier started offering iPhone contracts, and they provided the file when they started their service.

You're right. This could be true. My carrier never provided iPhone contracts. Therefore I don't even have the folder in which the file should reside.

For the commenter who was asking, here's a screenshot of the Telstra logo on an iPhone 4:

On the black status bar / home / lock screen the logo is solid white, as shown in the iPad screenshot below.

And, I can confirm that if you halve the resolution of the png files (so it matches the resolution of the iPad's screen), the same IPCC file works on the iPad 2 - I assume that on the iPad 3 it would work straight-out without having to modify the images:

I performed this hint using my existing carrier file but it didn't swap my AT&T text for a logo. Any idea what I did wrong?

So, where might one find the necessary file to get the AT&T logo on an up-to-date iPhone 4S?

I followed the directions ... for my iPhone 4 (Not the new S model) AT&T ... I'm sorry to say the process was useless. Still reads AT&T ... no logo. My phone is stock, right out of the box. Any suggestions? - Thanks!
