A mouse shortcut for adding a link to the Reading List in Safari Web Browsers
It is well known that one can add a link to the reading list using the link's contextual menu. However, I have found another mouse shortcut for three-button mice. It works at least in Mac OS X 10.7.3 in Safari 5.1.2 and 5.1.3.

Click the link with the middle mouse button while holding the shift key and watch the link jump to your reading list.

[crarko adds: I don't have a three-button mouse handy to test this, but if you have a programmable mouse, you should be able to make an application-specific macro to do this too. If you try this out in 10.6, please post the results in the comments.]

On a Macbook Pro, looks like you can hold the shift key and three finger click on a link in Safari to have it added to your Reading List. Pretty slick!

Clicking the mouse wheel while holding down the Shift key works too. Even on 10.6.8.

As does in Lion 10.7.3. Neat!

Just a regular old shift-click should do the trick. No need for three finger clicking, mouse wheels or middle buttons.

I'm on OS X 10.7.3 using Safari 5.1.3.

As long as you anyway need to reach your keyboard for the shift key, then why not to use the cmd-shift-D shortcut?

Another handy tip for using Safari reader, instead of having to disable javascript on the NYTimes website and others when you have read all your articles, hit the reader button straight away and avoid the subscribe messages.

I have my middle button set up to trigger spaces... so when I tried this, it did not work.. BUT, then I tried holding the shift key and LEFT mouse button, and it worked! Nice little hint. Thanks!

Trackpad works too

Shift click appears to be all that is needed in Snow Leopard. No mouse necessary. Works fine on a 2007 Macbook Pro trackpad.
