Mac Address Book synchronization with Android device - iCloud problem Phones
I wanted to sync my Address Book on my MacBook Pro running Mac OS X to an Android device. The problem is that I use iCloud for syncing between my Mac and my iDevices (iPhone, iPad) via the iCloud service.

I found a solution for syncing between Mac OS X and Android with some tweaking. Download SyncMate and install it on the Mac. The free version handles Address Books. Then download SyncMate from Android Market on your Android device and install it.
  • Start the SyncMate.app on your Mac and select 'Add Connection.'
  • Select 'Android Device.'
  • Select Wifi, assuming you use Wifi on the Android device.
  • Enter the IP address of the Android device.
  • Start the sync.
  • Open Address Book on the Mac.
  • Select Groups under the View menu.
  • Click on 'All iCloud' and then select all the addresses you want to copy to the Android device.
  • Drag the addresses to Contacts group.
  • Starts the sync again in SyncMate.
Now all the addresses in Contacts groups are copied to the Android device. When you add new addresses on the Mac you have to copy them manually to the Contacts group and resync.

[crarko adds: It looks like the free version may also handle calendars. If anyone out there with an Android tries this out, please post your results.]

Why not activating Google-Sync in the adressbook preferences (tab "accounts") because the Android device syncs with the "google cloud"? That's the easiest way to sync the Mac with an Android device.
There's also the possibility to sync iCal with google (in the iCal preferences) - so your Android device is in sync with your calendar.

There is also https://fruux.com. It's a free cardDAV server that offers iOS, OSX, and Android contact sync. It doesn't push changes to android, but syncs every hour. Best solution I have found so far. Does ical as well.

Both solutions, the one described in the hint (which is manual, cumbersome, doesnt support all cases and calendar) and in first comment (in fact it doesnt work well in real life scenario with calendar invitations and multiple changes on multiple devices).

I'm an avid user of Spanning Sync for last two years. It has:
.. full automatic, instant sync of contacts (all directions possible!)
.. full automatic, nearly instant sync of calendar
.. full support (Nobody has it) for responding to the outlook calendar invitations with proper email
.. you can see your google calendar in ical (also without net connection!) and you can see your mac calendar on google calendar webpage
.. support both on-the-mac calendar and icloud ones.

It is truly the only full solution. Oh, did I say it works automatically? ;-)

It cost 25USD (for all your devices, limitless), but it worth every penny! I'm not the developer nor owner. I just love the tool!! It saved many hours of work. I use it on my nexus one phone, macbook, imac and iphone.

There is also free 15 days demo - no strings attached - worth a try!

P.S. You can use link from below (or during registration use code JJ3JHJ ) to have it only for 20USD: http://spanningsync.com/?r=JJ3JHJ

Much better options are available than syncing device to device (or Address Book/Google syncing). There are now sync agents for Android (after install they will appear in your Settings>Accounts & Sync on your Android device). They will sync directly with iCloud.

For syncing contacts:
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.dmfs.carddav.sync&feature=search_result

For syncing calendars:
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.dmfs.caldav.lib&feature=search_result
-or-
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.dmfs.caldav.icloud&feature=search_result

I'm using the latter for calendar since it requires no specific server knowledge.

In short, just sync directly to iCloud. I completely disabled google syncing for calendars and contacts on my android device. I will eventually get an iPhone but until then, this is the best way to go.

i have iPhone (US SIM) and Nexus S (DoCoMo and whatever) and sync to my MBA/Lion with CardDAV-Sync and SmoothSync.

https://market.android.com/details?id=org.dmfs.carddav.Sync

https://market.android.com/details?id=org.dmfs.caldav.icloud

they made the Android device a first class member of my device set.
