Export of contacts from Address Book to Numbers Apps
Turns out there is a super easy way to export contact info from Address Book to a spreadsheet, if you have Numbers (from iWork).
  • Use Address Book to select the individual contacts, or select a complete group.
  • Drag the contacts/group to an open sheet in Numbers, a new table will be created with all your contacts.
By default only a few details are shown (last+first name, phone, e-mail address). All the other info is available as well, but hidden. Feel free to hide/unhide the columns you are interested in.

[crarko adds: Works just great. This didn't work with Excel 2011, which is not too surprising, as the underlying data model is different.]

In despite of the first impression all the data are exported.

Right click and choose display all the columns to see all the data.

Doesn't look like all of the data does export.

Spouse and Anniversary don't export, though things like Birthday, Nickname, and Maiden Name do. Actually, none of the other relationships (spouse, partner, child, mother, etc) seem to export

At least one of my contacts has two separate home addresses, and only one of them was exported. I have them both listed as "home" (which Address Book allows). Switching one to "other" lets it export.

It seems, on only brief experimentation, that if you have multiple fields with the same label (more than one home phone or email, more than one home or work address, etc), it only captures the first and ignores the rest.

As a result, this isn't useful to me. If I have it in the entry, I want it to export. Phooey.

Relax, it's only ones and zeroes.

Unfortunately it appears this functionality was removed in Numbers 3.0.
