iOS 5: Unlock device by swiping Notification iOS devices
After a quick Google search (as well as on macosxhints.com), I'm sharing this feature I discovered by accident. If your iOS 5 device is locked and you receive a notification, you can swipe the notification instead of the 'Slide to Unlock' widget, and you will be automatically directed to the related app. If you have a passcode, you'll still be prompted to enter it.

I've tested this on the following devices:
  • iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1
  • iPhone 3GS with iOS 5.0
  • iPad 2 with iOS 5.0.1 in both portrait and landscape mode

[crarko adds: I tested this, and it works as described.]

Note: If you swipe a missed phone call, you will be able to return that phone call WITHOUT unlocking the phone.

Yep! My 3 years old son knew this since the first day of iOS 5 released.

"...demonstrated in the keynote", "...in the user manual", and it is even an advertised feature, see Lock Screen @ http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#notification.

Ok, so this is not so much a "hint" as it is a "reminder of a feature"... =)

I'd also like to point out that you can also get to the Home screen by sliding your finger on the "slide to unlock" slider widget...! Huh? Huh? Wakka wakka! =)

Somebody didn't watch the Keynote or read the release notes. This has been a feature since day one, including all of the betas

This was a good hint. I remembered seeing it in the keynote AFTER I discovered it similarly 'by accident' after installing ios5. There's probably plenty of people out there that forgot about this and are now stoked to have rediscovered it again. Thanks!
