iOS 5.0.1 and iTunes Match kill Genius list button iOS devices
Not sure if anyone else has seen this problem, but the atomic symbol for generating Genius lists disappeared from song titles on my iPhone 4 (in the Music app) after upgrading to iTunes Match.

Another weird behavior is that Genius lists I create on my MacBook Pro using iTunes do transfer to my iPhone via iTunes Match, but can't be refreshed on the iPhone.

[crarko adds: I don't use iTunes Match, so I can't test this. Please confirm (or deny) this odd behavior in the comments section. I haven't noticed a lot of other reports on this, so it's quite possible it's a unique situation with the hint's author. If so, anyone with an idea of what would cause this please chime in as well.]

I found a work around...

1) Select a song to play in Music (must be a song downloaded to the iPhone, not streamed)
2) Once it starts, close Music (home button)
3) Kill Music (app launcher)
4) Restart Music (will open to the song you had playing before)
5) Atomic symbol re-appears...

Couple of quirks:
-Only works with songs downloaded on my iPhone (not iMatched/streamed songs)
-iMatched songs are included in genius playlists created using above steps (very strange)
-Genius lists made on my MBP (sync'd via iMatch) show up on my iPhone, but are not refreshable (act as a standard playlist, not genius)
-Genius lists I make on the iPhone are refreshable....

Another fix I found Trolling Apple Support communities is to turn off Match on the iPhone...

Yup, I can confirm it here on my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1. When iTunes Match is enabled, the atom symbol for Genius playlists - which should be in the center, below the playback progress bar - is gone. If I go back into the Settings app and disable iTunes match, the atom symbol for Genius returns.

I'm not sure if it's a feature or a bug, but it does make continued use of iTunes Match a bit less compelling.

I have IOS 5.0.1 and iTunes Match and I also noticed this problem. I assume it happens across the board but am hopeful they'll address it before too long. I also hope they'll address the limitation of not supporting playlists in iTunes Match that refer to smart playlists.

Same behavior here. Very annoying, I loved the Genius feature while on the road.

I use genius all the time and was very sad to find that iTunes Match does, in fact, disable genius. I'm not sure if Apple officially states this anywhere but there are definitely others on the support forums that are having the same trouble.

Apple does officially state this in the iTunes Help: "Note: If you subscribe to iTunes Match, Genius is turned off"

You can find this by searching for "genius" in iTunes Help, and then clicking the "Genius playlists and Genius Mixes" heading. It's listed under "Play a Genius playlist or Genius Mix". There is no further explanation in the help as to WHY this is, though.

I'm seeing the same thing. When I disabled Match on my phone this morning, the Genius functionality came back. Re-enabled Match, Genius disappeared. What a bummer.

I disabled Match and was never a match user to begin with, and my Genius atom icon will not come back. Disappeared after upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. Help?

I have exactly the same problem. Have an iPhone 4, iOS 5.01 and no Match account and it's disabled. Genius option has completely disappeared though.

I've had the same issue. You can bring back the Genius option by going into Music Settings and turning off "Show all Music". This stops your Music list from showing any music thats in iCloud but not on your iPhone. It just means you can't stream your music whilst you're on the go, but you can use Genius. If there's a specific song you want to listen to you can just switch it back on and stream it. To be honest you probably wouldn't want to stream your music on Genius with just a 3G signal anyway, so why they dont just make Genius ignore the iCloud music when you're not on WiFi I dont know...

Okay, now Thanks... ;)
I didn't notice my Genius icon was gone from my iOS5 devices until I red this hint... :(
BTW, I can't find the "show all songs" option in iTunes prefs (from the General Prefs app)... Maybe I'm missing something.
