10.7: Accessing ~/Library while keeping it hidden System 10.7
Some want to keep the ~/Library folder hidden and some may want to keep the Library unhidden, but there is also an in-between way.

Once unhidden, place the Library directory in the Finder's Sidebar, then hide the Library folder again.

The Library directory is now available to you via the Sidebar but hidden otherwise.

[crarko adds: This is for 10.7 only in the sense that it applies to the hidden User Library folder. The general method works for any hidden folder, like /Private and goes back at least to Tiger, and probably before that if memory serves.]

it's better to use "Go to" Finder menu item + ALT key pressed (and Library should apear in the list)

Even easier: type "open ~/Library" in a terminal

I prefer: Command-Shift-G
Than type: ~/Library

Dan Frakes mentions this tip (and 18 others) in his Macworld article from July 2011, 18 ways to view the ~/Library folder in Lion:

You can do this without unhiding and hiding again. Just Go to ~/Library, drag the Finder proxy icon to the toolbar, and you're done.

It's even easier: Just press and hold the “option/alt” key and you can choose “Go to Library” in the Go menu of the Finder.

My preferred way to access ~/Library is to just hold the option key down while clicking on the "Go" menu with the Finder active.

You scan also open a Terminal window then type "open /Library" -- or whatever folder/path you want to show/open in a Finder window (type it without the quotes, of course).

Yes, you too can create a hidden/"secret" folder named "sez-a-me" so you can type the Ali Baba-like command to access the "hidden treasures" ...
