10.7: Changed behavior in replying to Sent Mail messages System 10.7
In pre-Lion versions of Mail, replying to a message in the Sent mailbox created a message window that would be setup to go to yourself. Logical, if not necessarily useful. Mail.app in 10.7 adopts a feature that Gmail has long had, and now replying to a message you've already sent will automatically be configured to go to the previous recipient.

For those running pre-10.7 systems who would like similar functionality, an AppleScript was submitted a few months ago to replicate this behavior. And for those who are curious, this feature does not extend to iOS 5.

[crarko adds: I'm OK with the new handling, but using the referenced script from the earlier hint lets you choose how to have Mail deal with this. There may be cases when one behavior or the other is more desirable.]

For pre-Lion systems, there's also the MailFollowup Mail plug-in that lets you reply to the recipient(s) instead of to yourself, with shortcuts cmd+O and cmd+shift+O. Versions are available for Tiger, Lion and Snow Leopard/Lion.

This is one great improvement IMHO. When I accidentally discovered this, I was thrilled...

Mail has had the "Send Again" option for quite a long time, which is a far better way to resend the message to the original recipients.

The Lion implementation of "reply" to "Sent Mail" is actually quite inconsistent. If there is only one recipient, then it addresses the email to that recipient. If there is more than one recipient and you press reply, it addresses it to you. If you hit "reply all" with more than one recipient, it addresses it to you, and copies the other people on.

I don't see this changed behavior with Mail 5.1 under 10.7.2. If I select an email in my Sent mailbox and click either Reply or Reply All, the new email is always addressed to me, with cc's to the original recipient or recipients -- exactly as it's always been in previous Mac OS versions. I don't see the variations that a previous poster mentioned either; it's entirely consistent that the new email is always addressed to me.

I'd really like Mail to behave as the hint describes. But I can't find any preference setting to make it do so. Any ideas why different people are seeing different behaviors?

I've got two machines and one exhibits the old behavior and the other exhibits the new. I want to use the new behavior, but cannot find any preference for it. I even compared the two plists line-by-line and could find the key. Even stumped the Genius at the Apple Store.

Anyone know how to control this behavior?? TIA
