Drag Safari Java Applets to their own window Web Browsers
In Safari, hold down Command+Shift and then drag a Java applet to its own window.

Here's a simple Rubik's Cube applet to try it with. You'll notice when you press the keys an enclosing window appears, which can then be moved off on its own.

[crarko adds: It's actually pretty slick, how that works. I'm in Safari 5.1.1; I couldn't say how long this has been available.]

The same exact things works in the same way in Firefox and Chrome too. I guess it's something Java's doing rather than the browser. Very neat.

It doesn't work as described in Safari 5.0.6 in Leopard, but it's OK in Chrome. Nice find!

The trick requires Java Plug-in 2, which was removed from the Internet Plug-Ins folder in the last Java Update for Mac OS X 10.5 (because it no longer was going to be supported and wasn't compatible will all parts of the Java spec yet on 10.5).

Opera, recent versions of Firefox, and presumably Chrome look for that plug-in in its hidden location, so they load it, while Safari won't. (When I symlink the hidden plug-in into Camino's profile plug-ins folder, the trick works in Camino 2.1 on 10.5, too.)

That IS slick; works in Firefox 8.0 beta & 10.7.2 after I installed Java (as Lion does not include it).
