10.6: Add iCloud Calendar in iCal Apps
There is a way to add an iCloud Calendar in iCal in Snow Leopard.

Open iCal in Snow Leopard (if is up to date, it should be Version 4.0.4 (1395.7).
 • Select 'Preferences' from the iCal Menu.
 • Go to the Accounts tab.
 • Click the + sign to add a new account.
 • Select the 'CalDAV' option under the Account type.
 • Enter your 'User name' which is your iCloud .me email address.
 • Enter your iCloud 'Password'.
 • Now comes the tricky part; the 'Server address'. See below.
It will be of the form pXX-caldav.icloud.com (the XX would be numbers of the dedicated server). I was able to determine this value by sending an invite to another one of my other email accounts and clicking the 'Accept' button. This will open the reply in a web browser. If you look at the long URL, at the end there is a pXX value and that's the dedicated server.

Once that is done, the calendar will show up iCal. However, a few minor updates will need to be done so that it behaves just like in Lion's iCal.

Click the 'Server Settings' tab for your new calendar and update the 'Server address' with your pXX-caldav.icloud.com.

Next you need to update the 'Server path'. The way that it was configured is based on the MobileMe configuration and it needs to be updated to the iCloud. The value that MobileMe has is /principals/users/1.XXXXXXXXXX/ (The XXXXXXX is the dedicated number for your account. Update the path to /XXXXXXXXXX/principal/.

Update the 'Port' to 443 and select the 'Use SSL' option if is not selected.

Restart iCal in Snow Leopard. The Calendar will refresh.

[crarko adds: I haven't tested this one, although it looks very similar to the hoops you have to jump through sometimes when running the iCal service in OS X Server.

I'm one of those poor folks maintaining a mixed Lion/Snow Leopard setup holding out for some kind of update to Snow Leopard that will support a few basic iCloud functions like this. And I'm not switching from MobileMe to iCloud until either I see that, or have no other choice next Summer.]

I haven't tried this hint yet (and I will) but for what it worth, my username for iCloud is a different email address, so I guess I'll have to use this one instead of my .me email address for the login.

Yes to connect to iCloud you will need to use an iCloud login, unless you have migrated your MobileMe account in which case your MM account is now an iCloud Account.

This is a helpful hint - although it only solves part of the problem

I'm with Craig on this - I won't migrate to iCloud until Snow Leopard gains access, or I am forced off MobileMe next June. To make it work well , I'd like Apple to allow Snow Leopard to sync Contacts, Calendars and Documents.... (noting that even Lion doesn't do Documents yet!).

Well it does, but only for iWork documents

Yes this is very weak ! The iCloud document store better start supporting other Docs or it is unless to most people, yet another Apple Eco-System tie in. I am certainly not going to be giving up Dropbox as it works very well with my workflow.

How/where does Lion do iWork documents from the cloud?

This worked perfectly for me. Until work lets me upgrade to Lion, this is a suitable stopgap for me, especially for syncing the Reminders app.

I have tried it and it works. It's the only method posted online that will sync desktop, iPhone and iCloud if you're using Snow Leopard. Be sure to use an iCloud calendar on your mobile device to enter new calendar items. I had to change my default calendar to an iCloud calendar for everything to sync as expected.

There's a simpler way to determine what your pXX-caldav.icloud.com address is: log into icloud.com and share any calendar as a public calendar. The displayed URL will have the value you need. (Just substitute 'caldav' for 'www'.)

Has anyone had success adding an iCloud account to iCal on Leopard?

I want to thank you for taking the time to provide this information. I spent many hours looking for ALL the needed info but didn't until tonight. After reading your posting and SUCCESSFULLY setting up my account in iCal (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) I realize I had all but one piece of the puzzle, that I needed to confirm I was using the correct "=PXX" number in the server address for my account and how to find this information easily!

Sorry to be slow - how exactly do I find out my pXX dedicated server? I'm not sure if I am inviting myself correctly....

I'm sending out calendar sharing... I'm assuming I'm doing it wrong.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Specifying a server of caldav.icloud.com worked for me. iCal talked to the server and figured out 'the details' on its own.

But, no such luck with contacts. Anyone?

I set this up and it works. However, the calendar constantly duplicates itself and I am overrun with calendars in my sidebar. This happens with subscribed google caldav calendars also. Does anyone else have this experience?

Yes, that happened for me. But I think the duplicates are because there's a task calendar and an event calendar (if you uncheck them one-by-one you can see what effect it has).

Am glad that this is working for you all. I do agree that there should be iCloud for Snow Leopard. But until then at least there is a work around lol. So far email and iCal works. I am still trying to figure out Contacts. In theory it should be similar except that the URL changes from caldav to either contacts or carddav but something is not working and I haven't been able to figure it out :-(. I actually imported the .plist file under Lion to Snow Leopard, but it doesn't pick up. I am still trying though lol. Hopefully I can soon. If I can, next up is to look at iWork (even though I don't use that) and more challenging Photo Stream (which could be a huge challenge since there is no option for that with the new iPhoto update in Snow Leopard. Heck, if I am able to figure all this out, by the time am done Apple might have iCloud in Snow Leopard LOL.

Hello,
Both my computer running 10.6.8 My iPhone 3Gs running ios 5.
I have succeeded to establish icloud syncing between one of my computers and my iphone according to a tutorials published here:
10.6: Add iCloud Calendar in iCal - Mac OS X Hints
Under this tutorials and using instead of pXX the values as: p04.
My first Mac iCal was synced successfully to iCloud as well as to the iPhone.
I have tried to synced my second Mac ical, and followed all instructions, but the CALDAV account is not created, and the "ventilator wheel" continues to turn around endlessly. On my second mac I can see my iCloud calendar synced via safari.
My question: Is there a way to sync the second iCal to icloud?
TIA

Finding your XXXXXX
Authored by: MiriamNZ on Nov 08, '11 02:52:34PM

"(The XXXXXXX is the dedicated number for your account. Update the path to /XXXXXXXXXX/principal/. "

I struggled to determine what my dedicated account number was. in the end I went to My account in iCloud, and searched in the html that showed my picture.
<image x="0" y="0" width="132" height="132" preserveAspectRatio="none" href="https://pXX-contacts.icloud.com:443/XXXXXXXXX/wcs/01dd154d99f02663c58e9531f3bc2dffcddc460819" r="10" clip-path="url(#r-d11445fa47a8433c9cf2b36ab3e129bd)"></image>
The server number is also hidden in there after the https:// (showing pXX, above)
My account number is 9 characters long, and is working, so I know this is right.

Hi MiriamNZ thanks for your comments- I have tried what you suggsted, but no matter how hard I try, I cant find the dedicated account number! Is this because I don't have a mobile me account?? I hope that I am still able to use this fix even though I don't have Mobile Me! Any tips appreciated! Many thanks!

10.6: Add iCloud Calendar in iCal
Authored by: davidduff on Nov 29, '11 08:40:31AM

thanks for the info.

i tried to set it up by doing the following: from my IOS 5 device (which is fully up and running under iCloud), i created an event on one of my iCloud calendars and invited myself to the event via one of my alternate email addresses.

when the message arrived, i could only see URL's with domain "www.icloud.com" (nothing that looked like PXX-caldav.icloud.com). i also looked in the .ics file that was sent, but it did not seem to contain any references to icloud domains, either.

am i missing something? do i need to know the specific PXX-caldav.icloud.com domain - i.e., does it matter which value of XX i use? (are users divided up across different servers? or is this just an array of servers all capable of serving any user?) if so, any other suggestions as to how i can find out my XX value?

in the invite email, when you click the link to download the ICS file, your browser address url would flash for a second as it redirects you to a pXX-caldav.icloud.com host then back.

Got it working. Thanks for the tips. I wanted my events to show up on my iPhone and 2 of my macs. What I needed to do and what I need to do in the future is go the the events and select the calendar in the cloud. For example, my iMac has a work calendar. I would use that to put days off, any OT worked, etc. I would edit the event to move it to my work calendar in the cloud rather than the one on my iMac. Once I did it, the event appeared on my phone and mac mini.

I just tried this hint and it is not working for me. I entered my server info and the message i get says " No CALDAV servers were found for pXX-caldav.icloud.com" I am not a MM user. The username i entered was the username i created when i enabled icloud. But when i goto icloud.com i have to enter my itunes username & password. So which one should i use?
Thx

If you have a Lion computer and LittleSnitch, to find the proper (pXX-caldav.icloud.com) domain name open LittleSnitch’s network monitor window and click on iCal to display the Connection History. If the pXX-caldav.icloud.com domain is not listed then create a new entry or modify an existing one and wait a moment.

This all almost works for me.
The only part that does not work is that if I add an event on the iCal calendar on my iMac, it does not show up on the iPhone or on the iCloud version of the calendar. If I add an event on either the iPhone or the iCloud calendar is does show up on the iMac calendar.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I found a simple way of finding the info from Lion.

First you need a lion setup and iCloud working, Go to your Home - Library (Option click on the Go menu and select Library in the Finder)

Open Calendars then there should be a folder ending in .caldav. If you have more than one you need to go through them till you find it.

Open up info.plist and you'll find the info you need for Snow Leopard in there.

This was the best way for me to find the correct pxx for me. I could not find it any other way.

I have just succeeded in using this info for my iPhone 3G so that I can now use iCloud syncing on it for mail and calendar.
(I have to use the 3G because the battery went out on my other iPhone, and I am waiting for the iPhone 5.)

Then I typed in p__-caldav.icloud.com
The server path was automatic, I changed the port to 443, then went back into account info and added my password again... It disappeared a couple to times. then I closed out of ical and opened it back up and presto! All my calendars.

Thanks for the support!

I find the easiest technique to find out about the XX in the server path (pXX-caldav.icloud.com) is to log in to your iCloud account, e.g. by using Safari. Then you open the Activity window (Cmd-Opt-A) and find there immediately the XX. You should see entries similar to this:

https://p02-contactsws.icloud.com/co/mecard/?dsid=2248...

No need to send yourself an E-mail etc.

I have set this up. No trouble with the sync onto all devices except that they all have what appear to be random events missing. The original imported calendar is fine in iCal but everywhere else including the online iCloud calendar some events are missing, sometimes whole days sometimes 1,2 or 3 events in a day. Any ideas why this may have happened?

I did get the iCloud calendar into iCal with this method. Helped by other suggestions to find the pXX- number. Still getting multiple entries on sync. That is my next challenge. Especially trying to sync to Blackberry from MacBook Pro. It sees the iCloud calendar as "read only", so can't sync back new events added on the BB. And, it also syncs the old iCal account so I get double entries on the BB. Any thoughts would help. But, getting the iCloud into iCal on MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 was a win!
