10.7: Drag a calculation from Spotlight System 10.7
I used to be disappointed that I couldn't copy the calculation results from Spotlight if I'm doing a quick math problem in it. Well, now with Lion, since you can drag everything else out from the Spotlight results menu, you can also drag calculation results.

It will drag into any text editor or I'm assuming anything that accepts text. Still would be handy to be able to copy it, but this is a huge time saver.

[crarko adds: I tested this, and it works as described. I also tried it in 10.6.8, and as indicated, it does not work there. It seems to be best to click on the little calculator icon in the Spotlight menu and drag that. I used both TextEdit and BBEdit as targets for the drop.]

You can also drag it to the Desktop or a Finder window as a text clipping.

Hitting Cmd-C while spotlight is still "open" should copy the calculation results to the clipboard -- at least it has and still does for me in both Snow Leopard and Lion...

I believe this also worked in Leopard.

CMD-C will copy the highlighted result of your search from spotlight. With a calculation, this is the result, with an app, it's the path to the app[1]. If I highlight a dictionary term, I get the phonetic spelling: argument |ˈrgyəmənt|

If I highlight a contact or email, I get the path to that address book entry or email. Not too useful, I suppose.

[1] If I search for, say, Safari, and CMD-C, the following text is in the clipboard: /Applications/Safari.app

A clarification about the source of this hint? Using 10.6.8 I am able to copy the result (not the formula) of a menubar Spotlight calculation. i.e. Typing 5+4 and pressing Command-C places 9 in the clipboard. It seems that I was able to do this prior to 10.6.8, as well.

Yeah, since at least Snow Leopard, a simple Command-C after you type your last number copies the result to your clipboard. Piece-o-cake.

As several posters here have said, it's been possible to copy the result of the calculation since at least Snow Leopard. And if you want to copy the formula, just select it in the Spotlight entry box and hit Cmd-C.
