10.7: Make DVD Player work with external drives Apps
The same instructions that work in 10.6 work with the DVDPlayback executable in 10.7.

See the original hint for 10.6.

My 10.7 had 4 instances of 'Internal' that I replaced with 'External.'

Many thanks to the original poster.

[crarko adds: This is even more relevant as the internal optical drive starts becoming an endangered species. Please note the precautionary warnings in the original hint.]

Someone a while ago made an AppleScript App called DVD Drive Switcher which I've been using for a while has been fine for me. :)

Can you please send me this script? The link no longer works, and I need to install it for a friend (deleted my copy somehow)

Hello. How to do this in 10.8 Mountain Lion? These methods do not work any more. Thanks.

10.8: Make DVD Player work with external drives

I did this for 10.8, 4 strings were replaced.

@snoozepops, after doing the procedure above and if it gives you the error on launching DVD Player with the DVD loaded, try quitting DVD Player and opening the Disc in the Finder first then open DVD Player again. It worked for me.

Hope it works for you.

Cheers, Andrew.
