10.7: Address Book changes Apps
New IM and Profile fields have been added to Address Book, and others have been expanded. You can add them to cards by going to Card » Add Field and picking the new field you want.

For example, Skype has omnipresent for years, but Apple's Address Book had no field to store a contact's Skype name. Now, the IM fields can be specified as: Facebook, Google Talk, Skype, Yahoo among several others.

There is also a new Profile section in Address Book, with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, MySpace and Custom labels, although there seems to be something lacking.

When I filled in Facebook with a contact's name and saved the changes, clicking on the 'Facebook' label, there were two options: 'Show Profile' and 'Show Photos.' They didn't work. But, adding profile.php?id=nnnnnnnnn where nnnnnnn is the profile number of a contact, will indeed get you to their profile.

[crarko adds: Welcome additions to Address Book. Hopefully it will continue to improve in future updates.]

If you put in Facebook username, however, the link does work.

The IM field has been present for a while although the services were a bit out of date.

my observations....

1 - the Facebook profile section only functions reliably if the Facebook user account is one that has been converted to a Facebook username, rather than the Facebook profile ID... you can tell if you go to your friends Facebook page... it should look like http://www.facebook.com/john.doe

2 - the Facebook chat option (like the new Skype one) does not function as might be expected with iChat... as far as I know, you can only add Facebook chat in iChat as a Jabber account, and it must be set that way in Address Book (as Jabber, not Facebook) for it to be properly recognized/synchronized so that you get chat status etc.

I wrote a little AppleScript that uses this field to populate any person's Address Book image with their Twitter profile image:

Thanks a lot for this; hopefully Apple might even bring a Twitter API across to OS X and we'll have inbuilt syncing. With iOS 5, going Settings > Twitter > @account , you can tap on 'Update Contacts' which syncs contacts pictures and names from Twitter, using the email address attached to their contact card.

What Apple should improve in the Address Book is the capacity to assign a contact to one or more groups.

You can assign a contact to one or more groups in every version of Address Book I have used. Does that not work in 10.7?

10.7: Address Book changes - envelope printing any better?
Authored by: dowsmith on Aug 02, '11 03:12:50PM

Has envelope printing been improved?

One irritating new 'feature' in Address Book 5 (with 10.5 & 10.6) was that the name DOESN'T necessarily print as First name-then-surname (which is presumably what all users would want), but in fact replicates the preference chosen for listings. Because I opt for Last name, first name, Address Book prints the name on envelopes as surname-then-firstname...

Does 10.7 correct this?!
