10.7: Shrink page width in full-screen Safari Web Browsers
Full-screen Safari is nice, but some pages don't do well with the Reader option, and are hard to read on an extremely wide-screen monitor.

If you move the mouse cursor all the way left (or right), the pointer changes to a horizontal-resize indicator. At this point, you can click and drag toward the center, to change the width of the page while the browser stays in full-screen mode. A gray linen background appears on the left and right of the resulting narrower page.

Each tab can be adjusted independently.

[crarko adds: I tested this, and it works as described. I tried this in Preview and it seemed to resize the page automatically when switched to full-screen mode.]

What's more, in Safari full-screen with multiple tabs open, this works on a per-tab basis.

I position my dock on the left-hand side of the screen and found that this tip won't work if I try grabbing the left edge. This is because the dock is hidden until you make an extra trackpad movement left, to reveal it. So if you have the dock set to appear on either side of the screen you can only use the opposite edge of the screen for this hint to work.

Still, it's a really useful hint though, I'll be using this a lot.

Full screen nice - sometimes. Not nice when I want to see windows from multiple apps at same time, eg, Safari + Address Book + Mail or Mail + Photoshop, Safari + Finder, etc. I have a 30" monitor and often want to allocate my screen's real estate according to what I'm doing at the time - with various combinations of open apps and their windows kept visible. Can Full Screen be turned off? Or hybrid? Can Full Screen be made to allow "whatever" combinations of app windows I want to be displayed simultaneously? I hope so.

No longer works with Safari 6, even under 10.7.4
