Maybe this is common knowledge, but I had never heard of it. I found out by accident that the key combos Command+Option+Right Arrow and Command+Option+Left Arrow will jump forwards or backwards in the currently playing item, respectively, by five seconds. This is the same key combo that VLC uses to jump forwards and backwards.

Jump forward or backwards in iTunes
There is also cmd-shift-left/right-arrow for going to next or previous chapter within a track.
Is too!
Command Option Arrow is indeed listed in iTunes Keyboard Shortcuts for "Move forward or backward within a song". --- dougscripts.com Edited on Jun 15, '11 08:46:37AM by DougAdams
Jump forward or backwards in iTunes
Documented in iTunes Help -> Shortcuts. Thks anyway, I had missed that one. Very useful for podcasts.
Jump forward or backwards in iTunes
I wonder if there is a way to change the intervall of the skipping time. By default it is 5 Seconds, but I'd rather have 20 Seconds to skip within a song by using the same shortcut. Any idea anybody?
Not working
These shortcuts don't work for me in iTunes 10.3.1(55), OS X 10.5.8 . Edited on Jun 15, '11 02:31:09PM by xhinter
Jump forward or backwards in iTunes
Here's an interesting fact. Until a fairly recent version of iTunes, holding down command-option and a left or right arrow key would result in continuous accelerated regression or advancement of the playhead, but the new position wouldn't be displayed until the keys were released. I'm not sure exactly how long that behavior existed, but I am pretty sure that it was at some point during the the pre-OS X days of the Mac OS when the current behavior stopped. In other words, you could hold down command-option and a left or right arrow key and watch the cursor move while the keys were down in the classic Mac OS, but at some point before Classic was replaced by OS X, that behavior stopped, and has only returned recently.
Jump forward or backwards in iTunes
Whats the contextual wording for this command? I want to change it to simply the Right/Left Arrow, and yes another +1 to changing the duration of the skip. I process TONS of music daily and could use a more adaptable seeking function. |
