Change scrubbing speed and resolution iPod
The clickwheel is gone and won't ever come back. [crarko adds: It's still there on the iPod Classic, although who knows for how much longer.]

However, until recently, it's been difficult to fast forward or rewind in a podcast, given the tiny little scrubber.

While scrubbing left and right, drag your thumb towards the bottom of the screen and the scrub speed will change from "High Speed", through "Half" and "Quarter" to "Fine Scrubbing", where moving the thumb from left to right effects only a few pixel change in the scrubber.

[crarko adds: I've done something like this on the iPhone and iPad, and it does give you a little tip about it when you go to scrub through the media you're playing. Still, it's one of those things that's not that obvious so I think it still qualifies as a hint.]

And for any audio file over an hour and a half long the scrubber still isn't accurate when you do this. I hope Apple fixes this issue.

That's a great trick thanks. I've often grumbled about not being able to get accurately to the bit of an audiobook I wanted but have never seen the 'hint' text because my hand is always in the way!

Adi :o)

Thanks for including this, Craig, and thanks for submitting it, mainstreetmark! I heard this a few months ago on The Mac Observer's Mac Geek Gab podcast and thought this was among the best iOS hints I'd heard, and I'm glad everyone here now gets a chance to find out about it (not sure why I didn't think to post it.) As adipoos points out, it's unlikely that anyone who doesn't know about this will ever see the 'hint' text displayed on the screen, because their fingers will usually be in the way when it is displayed.

OK, I'm calling worst hint title ever on this one. Including an "on an iPhone/iPod touch" at the end or some similar would have been much better. The way it reads now, I have absolutely no idea what it is for. Is it for Quicktime videos? iTunes playback? A monitors tip (seriously, how does "resolution" come into play here?)?
