Find lost photos after failed Image Capture import Apps
I used Image Capture to import photos to iPhoto, with the option to delete the photos from the camera after import. Image Capture finished the import with apparent success, but iPhoto did not show the photos.

I found them in /Private/tmp/Image Capture_Import.xxxxxxxx/, where x's indicate a sequence of digits and numbers (which I imagine changes each time).

[crarko adds: I haven't tested this one. I just import directly to iPhoto without using Image Capture as an intermediary.]

Glad you found your pictures, but IMHO, never EVER erase or format a camera card on your computer. Do it only with the camera - after you have verified (and backed up, IMHO again) the download.

This has just happened to me. Could you please be more specific as to where to find /Private/tmp/Image Capture_Import.xxxxxxxx/ on my hard drive - have looked and can't find it. Would be much appreciated as have lost all my Christmas photos. Thanks
