The latest MS Office 2008 for Mac update (12.2.7) has been out for some time now, and there's an important glitch worth knowing, related to Entourage.
In all previous versions of Entourage, when one received an email with rich HTML formatting, embedded images, formatted text, etc. would not display properly and instead one would see either empty boxes or boxes containing question marks. At the same time, a yellow bar would appear atop the message preview pane containing the message 'To protect your privacy, some pictures in this message were not downloaded' along with a Download Pictures link. Clicking on the Download Pictures link would reveal the message in all its rich HTML glory.
With this newest update, I've noticed that the yellow bar no longer appears automatically, because the preview pane is not actively updated to display the bar when needed. Instead, you might just see an incomplete email (with or without those question marks showing), and not even realize something is missing.
To force the yellow bar to display (so you can click on the Download Pictures link and see the full email), you need to do something to force the Entourage window to redraw itself. I've found the simplest way to do this is to toggle off and then on one of the options under Entourage's View menu.
To make this as simple as possible, I choose an option with a keyboard shortcut: Shift+Command+L to toggle off and then on the Quick Filter bar at the top of the Entourage window. Do this (press the keyboard shortcut TWICE) whenever you suspect you're missing HTML formatting/images in an email you're reading, and you'll get your yellow bar back in order to press the Download Pictures link. (This needs to be done each time such a message is received.)
