Use Apple's Magic Mouse in Tiger 10.4 Other Hardware
This hint links to a third party driver for the Apple Magic Mouse. It's still in beta but works great. It works for all operating systems from 10.4 on. Their Preference pane/driver offers greater functionality for the Magic Mouse than the native Apple driver.

With this driver your Magic Mouse has four buttons instead of two, each button can be assigned a different task for single finger clicks and for double finger clicks. There is a three finger click option but it is restricted to only the front of the mouse or the back as three fingers are too wide to fit in only one button space. Each of these click combos can also be assigned a separate function for soft taps instead of clicks. You can even remap the virtual edges of the buttons if, for example, you need a wider space to click because your right finger tends to wander and could use the additional room.

[crarko adds: I haven't tested this one.]

Use Apple's Magic Mouse in Tiger 10.4

Just happened to get a Magic Mouse today as my Mighty Mouse scroll wheel bit the dust. I was disappointed that Apple didn't have the old mouse which I liked. The Magic Mouse while having a nice finger scroll lacked the third programable click. So I was pleased to see this timely hint. This driver is so cool. I now just tap the Magic Mouse for left and right click. Similar scroll action as Apple's driver. But now with two finger scroll there's 5x acceleration. Two finger tap yields Dashboard. Every thing is programable. I haven't even figured out what I'd like a three finger swipe to do. This is a beta drive good until September. I think it will be 20 bucks for full version which I'll be happy to pay. So cool.

Or try MagicPrefs, a free PrefPane:
http://magicprefs.com/

It supports configurable 1,2,3,4 finger clicks, 1,2,3,4 finger taps, 1,2,3,4 finger scrolling, multi-finger swipes, drags and pinches etc. etc.

Can't live without it anymore :)

But the whole point of this hint was getting Magic Mouse to work in 10.4...and magicpref is for 10.5 only.

Thanks to the original hint poster...getting Magic Mouse to work properly in 10.4 is awesome!
