iPhoto Smart Album for iPhone 4 Photos Apps
The new camera capabilities of the iPhone 4 are much improved from the earlier models. I wanted to separate my new iPhone 4 photos from the rest of my iPhone photo library within iPhoto and here's how you can do the same.

I have had every iPhone model since the original. Apple listed the camera model in the EXIF tags as Apple iPhone until the 3GS where they actually said Apple iPhone 3GS. With the iPhone 4, Apple has gone back to simply listing Apple iPhone. This makes it tricky to make a smart album for only iPhone 4 photos. Since the new iPhone 4 has a flash, we can use that metadata to create our iPhone 4 Smart Album. In iPhoto go to File » New Smart Album... and enter the follow settings in the dialog box.
  • Match all of the following conditions:
  • Camera Model is Apple iPhone
  • Flash is not Unknown
Here is a picture of what that should look like. This will place the imported iPhone 4 images uniquely within this Smart Album. [crarko adds: Until iPhone 5 is released...]

[crarko adds: I haven't tested this one.]

This does not work for me.

I created the smart album as described and iPhoto found one photo with EXIF data showing iPhone and software 3.1.3. The photo was taken with iPhone 3GS.

I tried this a few minutes ago, and discovered something interesting. I have an iPhone 3G and have only owned an iPhone 3G. However, when I selected Camera Model in the Smart Album pull down menu I had two options, iPhone and iPhone 3G. I created both smart albums to see what the difference was, and all of the photos tagged with the camera model iPhone were taken July 9, 2009 and earlier, while all photos tagged with the camera model iPhone 3G were taken on October 30, 2009 and later. I thought this might be an interesting side note. Oddly enough, I didn't find a way to edit the exif data so I could have all of these photos listed as taken by an iPhone 3G.
